Shannon Osawabine

Besides myself, Shannon Osawabine is the longest serving member of the Avery & Associates Research Service team. She began her work as a transcriptionist of historical records when she was just sixteen years old. Her many years of study of the Ojibwa and French languages, given with her hard work and dedication, have made her a valuable addition to our team. She is especially adept at reading old handwriting, and can quickly identify even the most badly misspelled Ojibwa names. Shannon is also the only person besides myself that does data entry in the Avery Genealogical Database, which requires a unique understanding of both the Ojibwa Language and genealogy in equal parts to scrupulously maintain the integrity of the data.

An artist by nature, Shannon is talented in a wide variety of mediums and is also an accomplished photographer. Any project she has a hand in only benefits from her involvement and eye for beauty.

Shannon Osawabine is a member of the Saginaw, Swan Creek & Black River Bands of the Chippewa Nation, but descends also from Kettle & Stony Point First Nations on her Johnson/Johnston (Okawnawnis) side, and from Walpole Island First Nation on her Pontiac (Wainchegezhegoquay) side.
